1.Overview

These terms are an agreement between you and Alto Buro, LLC, an Arizona limited liability company (“we,” “us,” or “our”). They govern your subscription to Affiant Statements, our desktop application for extracting transaction data from bank and credit card statements.

BarLedger is licensed under separate terms. Custom portal and consulting engagements are governed by the separate written agreement for that engagement, not by these terms.

By subscribing, activating the software, or using it, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the software.

2.The License

Affiant Statements is licensed, not sold. While your subscription is active we grant you a personal, nonexclusive, nontransferable license to install and use the software for your own business, including work you perform for your clients.

One activation key activates the software on one computer at a time. If you replace a computer, or want to move to another one, you can release the activation from within the software and activate elsewhere. Running it on two computers at the same time requires a second subscription.

The license lasts as long as the subscription. If the subscription ends, the software stops working. Workbooks it has already produced are yours and are not affected.

The software, its interface, its documentation, and the Affiant and Alto Buro names and logos are our property and are protected by copyright and trademark law. Your subscription gives you no right to use those names or logos, other than to say truthfully that you use the software. Nothing in these terms transfers ownership of anything to you.

3.Your Anthropic Account

Affiant Statements does not include model access. It runs on your own Anthropic API key, which you obtain and pay for directly from Anthropic.

Your subscription pays for the software. It does not pay for the Anthropic usage the software consumes. That usage is billed to you by Anthropic at their rates, and what a run costs depends on how many pages you process and which model you choose.

Your relationship with Anthropic is your own. Their terms govern what you send them. We are not a party to that agreement, we have no access to your key, and we cannot see, retrieve, or act on anything you send them.

4.What You May Not Do

You may not:

• Share, resell, sublicense, rent, or publish your activation key
• Run the software on more computers than your subscription allows, or work around the activation limit
• Offer the software to others as a service, whether or not you charge for it
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the software, except where that right cannot be excluded by law
• Remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or license notice in the software
• Use the software to break the law, or to process records you have no right to process

If you break these terms, the license ends and you must stop using the software.

5.Activation

The software contacts our license server when you activate it, when you release an activation, and about once a day after that to confirm the subscription is still active.

That request carries your activation key, a one way hash of a hardware identifier for your computer, and the version of the software. It carries no part of any statement, no file names, and no client names.

If our server cannot be reached, the software keeps working for seven days on the last successful check and shows you how much of that window is left. This covers an outage or a week without a connection. It does not cover a subscription that has ended.

We may refuse or revoke an activation where a key has been shared, where the activation limit is being worked around, or where a payment has been reversed.

6.Updates

Updates are included at no additional cost for as long as your subscription is active. There is no separate maintenance fee.

We may change, add, or remove features between versions. We are not obliged to keep any particular feature, or to keep support for any particular model.

7.Payment

Affiant Statements is sold as a monthly subscription. Prices are shown at checkout in United States dollars. Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.

Your subscription renews automatically each month until you cancel.

You are responsible for any sales, use, or value added tax that applies, unless it is collected at checkout.

Your activation key is sent by email after the first payment clears. If it does not arrive, contact us and we will resend it. The same key stays valid for as long as the subscription is active.

If a payment fails, Stripe retries it over several days. We do not end a license on a single failed charge. If payment still cannot be collected, the subscription ends and the software stops working.

8.Cancellation and Refunds

You may cancel at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the month you have already paid for, and the software keeps working until then.

We do not offer partial refunds for an unused part of a month.

Because the software runs on your own Anthropic key, we cannot refund Anthropic usage charges. Those are between you and Anthropic.

If the software will not activate or will not run and we cannot resolve it, contact us before disputing the charge. We would rather fix the problem.

This does not affect any right you have under the law of your own country that cannot be waived by agreement.

9.Support

Support is provided by email at contact@altoburo.com. We answer during ordinary business hours, Arizona time.

Support covers installation, activation, license recovery, and defects in the software. It does not cover training, data entry, custom development, review of extraction output, or problems caused by hardware, other software, or changes you make to your system.

We do not offer a guaranteed response time.

10.Feedback

If you send us a suggestion, a bug report, a feature request, or any other feedback about the software, we may use it without paying you and without crediting you. You keep the right to use your own idea however you like. We are not obliged to act on anything you send.

This covers the idea and not your files. Nothing here gives us any right to a statement, a workbook, or anything else you process with the software.

11.Your Data

Statement files you process stay on your own computer and go from there directly to Anthropic under your own account. They do not pass through our servers. We never receive, store, or process them.

The workbooks the software produces are written to your computer. Your API key, your settings, and the cache of pages already processed are stored on your computer and are never sent to us.

What we do hold in connection with your subscription, and why, is set out in our Privacy Policy.

12.Accuracy and Verification

Affiant Statements uses a large language model to read statement pages and extract transactions. Extraction is not exact. A page can be misread, a transaction can be missed, and an amount, a date, or a description can be recorded wrongly. Pages that are faint, skewed, handwritten, or unusually laid out raise the chance of that happening.

You are responsible for checking the output against the source statements before you rely on it, and before it is filed, produced, served, or given to anyone as a record of what a statement says. The workbook the software produces is a working document. It is not evidence until you have verified it.

We do not warrant that any extraction is complete or correct. We are not responsible for any consequence of relying on unverified output, including in litigation, in a filing, in an expert report, in a valuation, or in a settlement.

13.No Warranty

The software is provided as it is. To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranty that it will be uninterrupted, error free, or fit for any particular purpose.

You are responsible for keeping your own backups of your work.

14.Limit of Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability arising out of or relating to the software or these terms is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.

We are not liable for lost profits, lost data, business interruption, Anthropic usage charges, or any indirect or consequential loss. This includes any loss arising from output that was wrong, incomplete, or relied on without verification.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

15.Ending the License

You may cancel at any time as set out in section 8.

Your license ends automatically if you break section 4. We may also end it where a payment is reversed or where a key is being used fraudulently.

When the license ends the software stops working. Workbooks already produced, and your settings and cache on your own computer, are yours and are untouched.

16.Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms as the software or our providers change. Each version carries a version number and an effective date, shown at the top of this page and at the top of the agreement bundled with the software you installed.

The version in force on the day of your most recent renewal governs that month. Installing a later version of the software does not change the terms for a month you have already paid for. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms for anything after that.

17.Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Maricopa County, Arizona.
